Hedge Cutting & Trimming in Crawley

Gardener trimming a hedge with a hedge cutter (stock image)

A sharp hedge lifts the whole garden; an overgrown one steals light, crowds borders and grows more expensive to fix every year it's left. We cut everything from a single front-garden box hedge to hundred-metre field boundaries, and every job ends with the clippings chipped and taken away.

Hedge services

Annual maintenance trims: beech, hornbeam, privet, yew, laurel and box kept crisp, usually cut once or twice a year.

Height and width reductions: hedges brought back to a size you can maintain yourself, cut cleanly so they thicken back up rather than browning off.

Overgrown leylandii: the classic Crawley problem hedge. Leylandii won't regrow from old brown wood, so reductions have to be planned carefully; we'll tell you honestly what height it can come down to and still look decent, and when removal and replanting is the better-value answer.

Restorative work: neglected hawthorn, blackthorn and mixed native hedges thickened up over two or three seasons of staged cutting.

Timing and wildlife

We plan hedge work around the bird nesting season (March to August). Legally, no hedge can be cut where birds are actively nesting, so bigger reductions are best booked between September and February, which suits the hedges too. We check every hedge before starting, whatever the month.

Prices

Small garden hedges from around £60–£100 per visit; larger reductions priced by the metre after a quick look. Regular-cut customers get priority booking and better rates.
